Very much welcomed and much anticipated to the NRH was the arrival earlier this year of a brand new ParaMotion Machine.  This state-of-the-art technology is a new addition to the sports physio department and was funded through the amazing generosity of the Dun Laoghaire Golf Club Captains Day Charity fundraising event. This very specialised piece of equipment can be used for multiple sports, such as golf, archery, boccia, etc, enabling an individual with no lower limb strength or power to use the machine to provide a stable, standing position for a natural golf/boccia swing.  The machine features off-road capable tires, a wide stance, and powerful drive systems to navigate challenging terrains like greens and bunkers and other off-road terrain. The wheelchair offers features such as seat suspension, seat plate shifting to prevent clothing snags, and a programmable control system for a personalised experience.  This new piece of equipment will be a huge addition to the Sports Physio Department in the NRH, enabling patients to trial and test if this very specialised equipment will benefit them in relation to independence and accessibility to a variety of sports and activities following their life changing event.  We will be forever indebted to Dun Laoghaire Golf Club for enabling us to have one of these machines here in the NRH.
