Fun Day & Charity 5K Run in aid of the new NRH Paediatric Playground

HUGE THANK YOU to Hines, Cherrywood and everyone who supported the Cherrywood Family Fun Day and Charity 5KM Run in aid of the new NRH Paediatric Playground.  The event took place in Tully Park, one of the new parks as part of the Cherrywood Development, last Sunday the 16th of September 2018.  A wonderful day was had by all.  The sun shone, the crowds descended, and the atmosphere was electric.

Lots of free activities were laid on for children, courtesy of Hines, such as bouncing castles, face painting, giant Connect 4, with Cuala and Tennis Ireland also offering free coaching.

The highlight of the day was the 5K Run.  There was a strong turnout of runners with families of all ages taking part in this Charity 5K Walk/Run.  Megan Williams, Irish International Rugby star, led the warmup with Kathryn Thomas officially starting the run.  We had one extra special participant called Ben who was a paediatric patient twice in the NRH.  His goal was to show that he could complete the 5K after his rehabilitation here in the hospital.  Ben was truly inspirational and crossed the finish line with a huge smile on his face, whilst also raising a phenomenal €400 for the new NRH Paediatric Playground.

There was an incredible response to the raffle, and we would like to thank each one who purchased raffle tickets in aid of the new playground in the NRH.  We are so grateful for the enormous goodwill towards the hospital, and it was so lovely to meet and hear so many of your wonderful stories and connection to the hospital.

A huge thank you to Fran Moran and his hospital volunteers, staff members and the Dún Laoghaire Lion’s Club volunteers, all of whom gave up their Sunday lie-ins to help.

Finally, Rushes of SuperValu Killiney, Dalkey, Naas and Centra Stillorgan very kindly provided a goodie bag for all the runners and children, supporting the NRH Foundation as its Charity of the Year partner.
